much awaited

After celebrating family, friends and good food on Thanksgiving, Districters have something else to look forward to: the launch of DomiCile magazine.

Promising to be a regional enterprise, the DomiCile mag - launching November 29 - will fill a huge gap in this city's home and design space.  Let's hear three cheers for thinking, decorating and shopping local!

In the meantime, get acquainted with DomiCile Daily, the fantastic new collection of stories about home & design, neighborhoods, regional travel, food, fashion and gardening in the DC area.

the peak of chic

Fellow blogger Jennifer Boles of the Peak of Chic has a new book out and the New York Times visited her in Atlanta to learn more about the woman behind it all.

ICDC has always loved Boles' blog, and just assumed her apartment would be beautiful.  But never in her wildest dreams did ICDC think Boles would be so bold as to have a painted turquoise animal-print mantel or leopard carpet!  And that mirrored entry hall with cherry blossom wallpaper..on the ceiling!  Just stunning.

I think we should be friends.

Enjoy!

apartment for sale!

Looking for a sun-filled, very large one bedroom apartment in a pre-war building near the National Cathedral?  Then ICDC has the perfect space for you!

With a front hall, living room, dining room, kitchen, study, bedroom and bathroom, this apartment has wood floors throughout.  There's even a wine storage cabinet!

Lush and expansive gardens are the cherry-on-top.  There is plenty of parking and a bus stop right outside.

Why leave such a wonderful Shangri La?  ICDC is ready for a free-standing home.  Apartment living for the past five years has been wonderful (no maintenance and worry-free!), but now it's time to spread her wings.

Here's a sneak peek.  Email ICDC to arrange a viewing!

not ready

Not. Ready. For. The. Holidays.

Despite the best efforts of ICDC's local drugstore, she refuses to skip Thanksgiving and go straight to Christmas.  Even if this year there are only three weeks in between.

beyond chic: a sneak peak

Intrigued by the chance to peak into the homes of your favorite creatives?  Like, perhaps, some of fashion's top designers?

Look no further: Beyond Chic is here.

ICDC has always enjoyed reading that monthly column in Harper's Bazaar, in which fashion designers recount a day in their life.  It's like a secret glimpse into the activities and behaviors of fabulously interesting and unusual people.  What is it they DO during the day that makes them so fascinating??

Beyond Chic is like the visual version of that column. Photographer Ivan Terestchenko has captured the inner sanctums of the most revered creatives, including Azzedine Alaia, Laudomia Pucci, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Coco Chanel, Loulou de la Falaise, Rosita and Ottavio Missoni, Yves Saint Laurent, Reed Krakoff and others.

Sometimes full of color, sometimes minimalist, sometimes traditional and sometimes modern, each home gives a personal insight into the tastes of the highest of high fashion designers.

Maime de la Falaise's home (bff to YSL) is definitely ICDC's favorite.  Pictured wearing sunglasses and yards and yards of beads around her neck - dressed like an "unusually elegant gypsy fortuneteller," this great dame 's home in Manhattan is a reflection of her life: "totally unpredictable, a glittering, perpetually shifting kaleidoscope that somehow felt like the center of everything."

Full of vibrant colors, rich patterns (ikats and tribals), this layered home feels like a fantasy world far, far away..

Add the book to your wish list today.  Enjoy!
