the US Botanical garden

Recently, ICDC stopped by the US Botanical Garden with her sister, a naturalist who served as a fantastic guide to interpret all those latin plant names and point out interesting plants, succulents and trees that the lay person might otherwise miss.

It's a jungle in there!  The conservatory gardens are divided into sections, with the largest, main section dedicated to rainforest species that reach the height of the building.  Stairs on either side allow visitors to walk up to the top, alongside the tallest trees you never knew you'd see in Washington, interspersed with the most breathtaking orchids, air plants and unbelievably shaped leaves.

Then there's the impressive outdoor rose and bonsai gardens with trellis tunnels..

With the glorious weather we've been gifted today, take the opportunity to stop by the gardens and conservatory.  You'll be amazed!

design crush: kelly wearstler

Kelly Wearstler is a creative.

And she's hip.  She dreams up color schemes, patterns and texture combinations no one else would ever imagine  and has a style unlike any other designer out there: a mix of high-end 1980s with a dose of modernity.  And always, beautiful, interesting objets.

It's really hard to match discrete fabric patterns together, but Wearstler is a natural pro.  She started designing homes in 1995, making her mark on the Avalon hotel in LA.

Then she designed BG, the restaurant and lounge in Manhattan's Bergdorf Goodman, with eye-catching porter chairs - a favorite stop of ICDC's!

KWID, as her firm is known, now boasts a line of highly successful fabrics.  They include an ICDC all-time-favorite, the "Imperial Trellis," designed for Schumacher  (the line is now for Lee Joffa):

Beyond interiors, Wearstler has created a fashion and accessories line.

Already know Wearstler?  Peruse her website and get to know her all over again.

A new convert?  Get ready for eye candy that will blow your mind!

Either way, the Fall 2013 home collection is stunning.

Apologies for the unexpected sabbatical..life has been a bit crazed lately.
Here are a few patriotic-inspired images and interiors.
Lots of love, ICDC
