creative present wrapping

My new brother-in-law decided if he had to wrap Christmas presents, he would do it in a manly way: with duct tape and home depot paper.  It's quite creative, don't you think?!  Merry merry!

merry mantels

Christmas tree? Check!  Wreath? Check!

If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace (grrrr, ICDC is jealous of your extra warmth), then below are a few ideas for dressing it up this holiday.  If you aren't so lucky to have a wood-burning hearth and surround, never fear!  Be inspired..use the little extra time on your hands before the family comes to town to stop by The Brass Knob (which has mantels like this one in stock) and go crazy!

shop local!

Stumped about what to bring to that colleague's holiday party?  Need a hostess gift for the in-laws this year?  Try picking up an affordable item made in the District (or at least nearby).  Sure to be unique, while supporting the local economy, you can't lose with one of these 6 items:

1.  Green Hat Gin - Named after George Cassidy who supplied Members of Congress and Senators with gin during prohibition, while of course wearing a green hat, this gin is bottled by hand in small batches on Fenwick Street NE by Michael Lowe and John Usleton.  Pick up a bottle at your nearest and dearest liquor establishment or stop by the distillery.  $36 each

2.  DC Brau - The District's favorite locally brewed beverage offers free tours and tastings every Saturday afternoon!  $10-12 for a six pack

3.  DC Flag Necklace -  Designed by hand and cast in brass, this Rachel Pfeffer necklace is one of a kind.  $55

4.  BrakeInk - A custom illustrated paper studio in Washington, BrakeInk was founded by Elizabeth and Kingsley McAdam.  All products feature Elizabeth’s original, hand painted artwork.  Check out the adorable collection of holiday cards and pick up a little stationary for yourself too...ICDC recommends the "Shell" notecards.  Oh-so-chic!  $2.50 each or $12.50 for a set

5. Dalton Pratt - Add a little "Sparkle" to your holiday!  Pick up an R. Nichols Candle, scent of Christmas trees, for $45.

6.  Beridan Naturals - In the brutal cold, a rosehip and red clay exfoliating mask will do wonders for the skin.  Pick up a bottle from this Frederick, MD company.  $13.
