slithery chic

Halloween is tomorrow!  In honor of this spooky day, ICDC wanted to share a few slithery chic items for the home.

How to make your own snakeskin table?

1. Find a table

2. Buy a few yards of faux snakeskin fabric at $10 a yard

3. Buy "mod podge" glue (the all-in-one glue, sealer and finish).  You can get it online or from any art/craft store like Utrecht on 13th & I Streets NW. $6-10

4.  The next part is pretty simple, especially if you've chosen an item with 90 degree angles like the parson's table above.
  • First, cut pieces to wrap around each section of the table (four legs, edges of table, top of table).
  • Next, Mod Podge a leg of the table and then wrap the fabric around, taking care to smooth the fabric onto the table and remove bumps.
  • Repeat for the rest of the legs, table edges and top.
  • Cover the entire table in another coat (or two) of Mod Podge and let dry (preferably on a piece of cardboard or fabric so it doesn't stick to the ground).  Voila!
Total cost?  About $70!  That's a fraction of what one of these pieces would cost retail.  And the same technique can be used for boxes and trays.  It's even easier to use as wallpaper or to cover the inside of a bookshelf - just make sure to use pins to hold the fabric in place at the top until the first coat of glue dries.
